AI and Humanity

Course lesson · Lesson 5

Steering

Some AI risks are documented, some are plausible and some are contested. This week compares how scientists, international bodies and civil society describe them, looks at a real automated system that went wrong, and asks you to defend a position and commit to a dated next step.

What you'll take away
  • Summarise the main risks experts describe, and separate documented harms from contested or uncertain ones.
  • Compare how different bodies are trying to govern AI, and who is missing from the table.
  • Examine how an automated public system can fail the people it serves, and what accountability would require.
  • Defend a one-page position under questioning and commit to a specific, dated 30-day plan.
