AI and Humanity

Course lesson · Lesson 3

Connection

AI systems now talk back, and many people, including teenagers, use them for company and advice. This week looks at what that does to trust, relationships and shared truth, why systems can be rewarded for telling people what they want to hear, and what children need that adults may not.

What you'll take away
  • Describe what current evidence says about how people, including teenagers, use AI companions and with what effects.
  • Explain how incentives such as engagement can push a system to flatter its users, and what a safeguard against that would require.
  • Outline how generative AI could change disinformation and influence operations, and where mitigations can act.
  • Apply a child-rights checklist to a real AI product and name what you cannot tell from the outside.
